Well 24 hour comic day is over.  And depending on your you define success, defines how Seth Talley and I did.

— Did We get a 24 hour comic made?  No we only got through 15 pages.

–Did we work for the 24 hours straight?  Despite out best efforts we could make it only 21 hours before we started falling asleep in our chairs.

— Did we bust our ass to make the best comic we knew how to in 24 hours?  Fuck yeah!

So I’m calling my first 24 hour comic day a success.  And though I “failed” at making the comic and working on it in 24 hours straight, isn’t the point.  The point is I didn’t make any excuses. I didn’t say it was too hard.  I didn’t worry that it’d come out bad.  I didn’t worry that I wasn’t good enough to pull it off, or let “artists/writers block”  stop me.  (though Seth handled the writing so I didn’t have to worry about writers block).  I just did it, and worked as hard as I could at it.  And you know what? technically I failed.  But that doesn’t mean I quit.  I’m going to finish this comic a little bit later (once i’ve completed some other comic book obligations).  And Next year I’m going to try again.  And Again, and Again, until i finally get a 24 page comic completed in 24 hours.

That’s the point I’m trying to hammer into those of you who come to me with these excuses.  They’re irrelevant.  What you need to be doing is trying.  Trying as hard as you can and not worrying about the results until after your done.  Once you finish, evaluate the results then:  Learn. Improve. Grow. Try again.  Repeat last 4 steps for the rest of your life. (because there is always room to improve and grow)

I’m still a bit tired, so give me a day to recover then I’m going to scan in what we accomplished and I’ll have it up on my site for all of you to see.  Then I’m going to study other 24 hour day comics and learn how to stream line this for next year…

So Don’t make excuses everyone.  Make comics!
