Hey Everyone! We’re breaking format a little this week so I can tell you about a new segment I’ll be doing for my “No Excuses” blog.
So as you followers know every Thursday I take an excuse someone has given me as to why they can’t make comics and I tell you why it’s lame. The whole idea of it is to help many of you out there realize that you can make comics if you want to. You just have to stop lying to yourself and actually do it.
I’ve been reaching a point however where alot of the excuses are the same. “I’m not good enough.” “I don’t have the right software.” “I’m scared of what people will say.” I still get some new ones here and there, but many stem from the same base. I don’t want to start repeating myself on this blog. Though it might help some people, it’ll bore other readers who’ve seen it time and time again. So I have to keep on finding new ways to encourage you without becoming stagnant and boring.
Then I realized, that maybe many of you might not take what I’m saying to heart because I’m just a small time indie artist. Sure I’m a professional, but I don’t have millions of fans. I haven’t worked at DC or Marvel. I can see why some people might not take my advice as seriously as they should.
So this brought me to the new “No Excuses” segment that I’m going to call “Examples.” In this segment I’m going to talk about comic book creators who are huge successes. These creators will be those who exemplify my “no excuses” philosophy so you can see where that attitude will get you in a way I can’t show you. I can’t say “Look at me, I’ve been doing this for 25 years and look at all the success it’s brought.” because I’ve only been doing this a few years. But these creators HAVE been doing it for 25+ years. So you’ll be able to see what happens when you stick with it for the long haul and don’t make excuses.
Some of the creators I’ll be talking about will be:
Walter Simonson
Todd McFarlane
Rob Liefeld
Robert Kirkman
And others… as I think of them, because I’m just sorta writing this off the top of my head…
It’s very very easy for a young aspiring creators to look at these “superstars” and think that they’ve always been like this. I can understand why. Many young, aspiring creators weren’t even born yet when these creators were struggling and trying to find their way. I hope to break that illusion and help you realize the heroes you look up to were exactly like you at one point. No one just magically becomes successful. You have to make no excuses, and work your butt off.
Now I won’t talk about a creator every week. This isn’t going to replace the usual “No Excuses” posts. I’ll do this perhaps once a month to keep everything fresh.
So look for my first installment in a week or so. In the mean time check me out around the web:
