Usagi Yojimbo
11 x 17 inches
Sumi ink, white ink, and sumi ink wash on bristol board

Last year I did a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle piece for the Heroes Con Auction, this year Usagi Yojimbo. If you haven’t noticed, my auction theme has been “80’s indie comics that have had a crap ton of influence on my art.” aka “anthropomorphic ninja and/or samurai.”
The first image is a scan of the original art. This is how it was sold in the auction. I had originally wanted to tea stain the whole piece to give it a aged parchment feel. However, the white ink did not stain, so I had to abandon that idea for the original art.
Thanks to the magic ability of digital art, I was able to apply a texture that mimicked the tea stain I had originally envisioned for the piece, which is the second image you see.
I am incredibly grateful that this piece was included in the Saturday evening auction event, and humbled and awestruck by how much the art sold for. Thank you to everyone involved!
I can’t wait until next year!
